Located just west of Puerto Rico, the area of Puerto Plata is a beautifully scenic area with mountains and golden sand beaches. The weather is fairly constant as far as temperatures go, with an average daytime high of 84 degrees and dropping down to about 70 degrees at night. With most of the rain in the region falling in the rainy or tropical season, you can expect a bit more unpredictable weather from May through October. Higher humidity, and a bit cooler temperatures are characteristic of this time of year. Still, the temperatures just range on the lower side of normal, and in Puerto Plata you can expect a pleasant stay year round.

The main beach is Long Beach, well known and fairly well traveled. Beaches such as Playa Dorado offer brilliant coral reefs which make snorkeling a popular pastime in the area as well.
